Managing “Problem Parts”

For a Leading Aircraft MRO Organization

Serving as a source for MRO parts with limited documentation

CaseStudy4Problem Statement
The customer, who is an industry leader in worldwide aircraft maintenance repair and overhaul (MRO), was awarded a long term indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract to provide full support of a U.S. military multi-role aerial refueling aircraft including ground support equipment (GSE). Contract requirements included support for several hundred thousand part numbers, some of which had limited documentation and support paperwork while others were out of production and/or obsolete.

Ingenium was selected as the source for over 300 of these “problem parts numbers” and contracted to identify solutions for supporting these products. Ingenium Aerospace receives products to perform maintenance, overhaul, repair and calibration weekly to support this effort. In many cases, Ingenium’s highly experienced staff creates the methodology and documentation to support these 300 items, ranging in complexity from simple pressure gauges and meters to overhauling and refurbishing limited existence custom hydraulic carts.

The Ingenium Aerospace team of engineering, operations, assembly and aftermarket support technicians work together to create custom strategies to service each item received. Ingenium validates the process and executes the repair, refurbishment, recalibration or overhaul.

Results & Outcome
To date, Ingenium Aerospace has solved all concerns relative to 300 “problem part numbers” being supported. All products are back in service supporting the sustainment of the US refueling aircraft fleet with a greater than 99.5% on-time delivery record for these MRO orders.
