Air

Component Description

Electromechanical actuator used to open and close a small door on the C-295 and CN-235 tactical transport aircraft.

What WE DID:

  • Designed, built, qualified, and produced an innovative design to meet challenging requirements in an aggressive package.
  • Created reliability and safety analysis of the actuator and electronics package.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the products life cycle.

The Environments:

  • Air

The challenge requirements:

  • All functionality of this complex actuator needed to be contained in a 2 inches by 2 inches by 8.5 inches long package with integrated electronics.
  • Actuator required extensive service life, mean time between failures, and reliability substantiation.

Our approach:

  • Used disciplined program management and compliance along with creative packaging design.
  • Integrated brush DC motor with a custom DC fail safe brake, an 800:1 custom multi-stage planetary gear ratio, position sensor and on-board custom-designed electronics.

The Solution:

  • A high quality products that meets or exceeds all customer and vehicle requirements certified within nine months.
